WYA's 'The Crucible' at Garter Lane

26/8/2014:  Tonight is opening night and the unveiling of Waterford Youth Arts' production of 'The Crucible' in Garter Lane. A cast of 24 young Waterford actors were greeted with rapturous applause for their performances at preview nights over the weekend.

Under the expert direction of Jim Nolan, this powerful production is delivered with poise and maturity. The play examines themes of social paranoia, deceit and puritanical intolerance. Interpreted by a young and serious crew, these themes are not lost on the audience and remain relevant, vivid, though provoking and current. Brilliant set design by Dermot Quinn, atmospheric lighting work by Richard 'Lippy' Collins and wonderful period costuming from NoMac enhance the play throughout, providing a real treat for theatre lovers. The play is being brought to life as part of the Waterford Youth Arts Summer project and is a fitting reminder of the great work that they do locally in facilitating young people to engage with the Arts. This production of 'The Crucible' runs to Sat 30th at 7.30pm, tickets €18/15.50 Booking: 051-855038 or http://www.garterlane.ie
